PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY THERAPY
What is peripheral neuropathy?
Peripheral neuropathy is a condition of the nervous system that typically causes numbness, tingling, burning, aching and a variety of other symptoms. Many patients also report experiencing restless legs or throbbing, cramping pains in their hands or feet.
Neuropathy is a progressive condition meaning it tends to get worse with time. If left untreated for too long, the nerve damage can reach a point where there is simply nothing that can be done. This is why early detection and treatment of peripheral neuropathy is critical to getting the best results.
One of the most dangerous aspects of peripheral neuropathy is the effect it can have on balance. If the foot nerves are damaged and not sending good communication to the brain, it can alter a person’s balance. Many patients with neuropathy report that they feel unsteady on their feet or have a hard time walking in a straight line. The risk for falls, fractures and extended stays in the hospital increase astronomically as balance continues to deterioriate. This is why we believe peripheral neuropathy is a life and death condition.
Symptoms of peripheral neuropathy
- Numbness in feet
- Electrical, crawling pain
- Restless legs
- Stiffness in the hands or feet
- Pins and needles sensations
- Fatigue in the legs
- Tingling or burning in feet
- Balance problems
- Cold feelings in hands or feet
- Shooting pains in the arms or legs
Common causes leading to peripheral neuropathy:
- History of back or neck problems (herniated discs, spinal stenosis)
- Sugar imbalance, history of sugar imbalance, pre-diabetes, diabetes
- Certain medications (cholesterol lowering medications, chemotherapy)
- Familial, genetic, autoimmune
These causes as well as others have responded to different therapies and care despite what others in the medical field suggest. To determine who is more likely to respond, non-invasive tests are available.
Different types of peripheral neuropathy
There are different types or categories of peripheral neuropathy. They can be broken down into large fiber and small fiber neuropathies. If you had an EMG test where large needles are placed in different areas of the hand, arm, leg or foot to test nerve function, understand that EMG testing is primarily assessing large fiber neuropathies. EMG testing is not used by Dr. Silva. If you have had the EMG test and were told that “nothing was wrong”, don’t be surprised. Many people seen by Dr. Silva have been told the same thing yet they have done very well with the types of care he offers.
The screening, neurological testing and peripheral vascular testing utilized by our clinic are different and are proven to be highly effective.
Cutting-edge peripheral neuropathy treatment
By using specific neurological, circulatory and metabolic protocols, we can help some of the more challenging cases and patients suffering from extreme complications.
We offer a number of different therapies – some directly for the peripheral nerves and others for the brain – as well as therapies for circulation. All the therapies utilized are non-invasive, evidence based and geared to help you feel better. The specific types of therapies will depend upon examination results. The screening provided during your initial visit will determine if you qualify for care and which specific therapies are best suited for you.
Revolutionary approach for an otherwise challenging condition
Our approach is revolutionary in that it helps people who have otherwise been told that there is nothing that can be done. Medications, standard therapies and other forms of care have been tried but little to no results were obtained for most people until they receive the care we offer. Why? Our approach is different. Our testing is different. Our analysis of the tests is different. Our therapies are different!
